You said that you let the oil flowing through the cooler all the time. During seasons other than winter, it should be OK, but I am wondering if starting the engine and warming it up in winter would take a lot of time this way.
As I discussed once with Jeff (our very well skilled friend here in Taiwan), he uses the same type like yours and I think in Taiwan it could be OK, since in winter it is about 10 degree C the coldest, so warming up would not be so problematic. Jeff developed also such oiler cooler, and with two variants, the one like what you've done and the other is front positioned cooler.
